Pop Culture 1950's


1.What media exploded in the 50's and how did business respond to this explosion?
Television was created, businesses started to advertise it. they even created TV dinners in order to make it easier for people.
2.Why did critics not like television?
  • It glorified historical conflicts
  • Portrayed a women as ideal people
  • Made viewers see only an idealized America
  • African Americans and Latinos would hardly appear
  • Men outnumbered women

They needed to create/build more schools , also they had to make sure to have toys and whatever is needed for babies in stock.

Mothers and wives were being glorified but they still felt unfulfilled.The number of women working rose steadily.Career opportunities were limited but number of women attending college increased.

President Truman and Family

1.What were some of the significant challenges President Truman faced after WW2 ?
Twelve million soldiers  returned and needed jobs,homes, and financial security but truman couldn't give them all thhey needed. Also he had to deal with the railroad strikes and bussinesses wanting to regulate prices. The main challenge was that people saw him as a person who couldn't handle the job of being president.

1. How did the lives of teenagers change after TGD and WW2? Explain.
Kids didn't have to work anymore, so they were able to go to school and get an education.They also began to get allowences  from their parents.
2.What is "white flight?"Was it good for society?
Middle-class whites moved to suburbs in order to live amongst themselves. It was bad for society because it increased poverty in cities.
3.Why did many Mexicans immigrate to the U.S before the 1950's?
They moved to help the United States  agriculture industry.

A company like Google needs creative thinkers , and back in those days people lacked individuality.

It was successful because because 7.8 million veterans took advantage of this bill trying to get a college education
3.Why were Mexicans in L.A unfairly treated in 1943?
They got treated this way because 11 sailors in L.A reported that they had been attacked by zoot-suit-wearing Mexican Americans,so racist people went to Mexican American neighborhoods and beat senseless any Mexian wearing a Zoot-Suit.
