WW2 Across the Atlantic Ocean


1.Who was the Supreme Commander in Europe, and was he successful?
General Dwight Eisenhower,  and yes he was successfu
l because he made the Nazi's surrender unconditionally.
2.What was the significance of "D-Day"?
It was the first day of invasion. Allies invaded in order to remove Hitler.
3.Was  Gen. Patton an effective leader?
General Patton was an effective leader because he liberated the french capital of Paris.
4.Why was the Battle of the Bulge significant?
It was significant because it was Hitler's last attempt/chance to win the war.

Coping With The War at Home


1.What was the OPA and what was their job?
Office of Price Administration , Their job was to fight inflation. They did that by freezing prices on most goods.
2.What was the purpose of the OSRD?
Office of Scientific Research and Development , their purpose was to bring scientists into the war. Not to fight but to create new weapons.
3.In what ways did Americans  sacrifice during WW2 ?
Americans had to ration supplies.
4.How similar or different were your sacrifices during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars?

U.S Gets Ready For The Fight

1.Who was Phillip Randolph, and why did he and President Roosevelt meet?
Phillip Randolph was an African-American labor leader, he met with the president because Roosevelt called him to tell him to back down and call-off the march.
2. Who were the WAACs and why were they important to the war effort?
They were women soldiers they were essential to the war because they could do certain jobs for example ambulance drivers, nurses,radio operators,etc. This also allowed more men to join the Army.


3. How well did African-Americans do during World War 2?
In the beginning it was bad because they were segregated, they only got remedial jobs and weren't allowed to take part in the war but in the end thanks to the agreement that took place between Randolph and Roosevelt  they began to get better jobs.

U.S Inches Towards WW2




1.What was Lend-Lease, and what countries did it benefit?
It was a way for U.S to give military aid to those countries that didn't have money to buy weapons. The reason behind this was so Germany could be defeated and so the U.S wouldn't be affected.France and the Soviet Union benefited from this.

2. What did Roosevelt call German U-boats?
Roosevelt reffered to German U-boats as "rattlesnakes".

3.How would you describe Roosevelts opinion of war?
 I believe his opinion was that war was sometimes necessary, that not everything can be resolved peacefully.He also didn't approve of dictatorships and saw that in the future if they did not defeat Germany.

It was an agreement they signed that turned Sudetenland over to Germany with out a single shot being fired.Churchill felt as if it was a dishonor, he just simply did not agree with it.

3.What is Blitzkrieg, and what was the purpose?
It's also known as the lightning war, which is a war tactic where you surprise your enemy and then quickly crush all opposition with ovewhelming force.

1. What Treaty did Hitler hate? Why?
Hitler dissapproved of the Treaty of Versailles because it blamed Germany for war, it also required them to pay for restoration, and it stripped them from their colonies.

Adolf Hitler- Germany
Benito Mussolini- Italy
Francisco Franco- Spain
Joseph Stalin- Russia
Hideki Tojo- Japan
3. Explain similarities and differences amongst the dictators.
Hitler and Mussolini both were powerful and influential speakers.
Stalin and Mussolini were vey hostile, they would get rid of anybody that opposed them.
4.What was the U.S thinking as several wars were breaking out?
The president wanted to get involved but opposed because they were still suffering because of the depression and recovering from the first war.
