Th Great Depression- President Hoover's Handling Of The Crisis

Herbert Hoover, a Republican president at the beginning of the Great Depression, was ineffective in his response because the people became angry and frustrated with him so in order to express and let their feelings be known about how severe the problem was, farmers stung by low prices, burned their corn and wheat, and dumped their milk on highways rather than sell it .They also blocked roads to prevent food from getting to the markets, they refused to work their fields and they used used force to prevent authorities from forclosing on farms. The people were angry because he refused to give unemployment benefits, and refused to give aid to the people in need. The thing that prevented Hoover from a re-election was the incident with the Bonus Army. The bonus army were all World War I veterans. they wanted their $500 bonus for serving. But since Hoover thought they were criminals and communists so he denied them the bonus.
